The field boundaries have changed so the exact location of the 1840 field boundaries is difficult to establish.
Medieval
A distinct concentration of five 13th-14th century pottery sherds was recorded within a c.5m. square area located towards the southernmost corner of the investigated field. These discoveries were made close to a portion of Handlye Common and a pond marked on the parish tithe map. The concentration of pottery appears to be in what was Kiln Field. No evidence has been found to suggest the position or nature of the kiln.
Method: Field subject to quick walk over assessment only. Ground ploughed but new crop showing through.
