The Little House replaced the row of three cottages recorded in 1840. The test pit was in what would have been the garden of the southernmost cottage (TA1027).
The excavation of a single test-pit was terminated at a depth of c.1.35m., although natural geology was not exposed. The earliest recorded deposit may represent either a 'night soil' or possible feature fill (precise character not ascertained). Identified finds include 13 sherds of early-mid 19th C. pottery and one fragment of Post-roman tile.
