Name TA 1840 Lower Sutton Field Shaw – 2007 unnamed field near Sutton Hall
TA field no. 92
Activity Walk through assessment of area to front of house noting native species only. Some ornamental trees planted as part of 19th century landscaping survive.
Report

Area of planting of oak pollards around pits and quarries. The ancient trees clearly pre-date the development of the estate which took place after the house was built. Most appear to have been retained both for their ornamental value in the landscape and the shade they provide for stock.

Post Medieval pollards and standards, with one ancient hornbeam pollard.
