The origins of the tenement have not been identified. Although there was no house recorded in 1840 there is a house on the site now. Since it lies immediately on the parish boundary it is possible that it was associated with a neighbouring manor centred in Newick or Chailey. James Ingram held a tenement in the manor of Allington consisting of a messuage, barn orchard and land in Chailey. This land should probably be associated with that tenement, but the house was built later. |
