The bounds of these tenements are difficult to determine. As the tenement descriptions imply, much of the land associated with this holding was formerly part of Marvell Common which was enclosed by agreement in 1574 (23). The land lying between the N-S footpath (Blunt's Lane) and the river Ouse probably represents that enclosed land. The barn by Blunt's Green may represent what appears to be the tenement with a barn. The Whitehouse is difficult to locate as the tenement had been partitioned and dispersed to various owners. It is possible that the cottage (Bonnicks), now lost (TA 674) was the Whitehouse, but the archaeological evidence does not suggest the house was early. However medieval pot nearby on the field suggests that there had been an earlier house which could represent one of the dwellings. Cobbs messuage (dwelling) has not been identified. Gallops Farm, also known as Jenner's Farm, but (probably in error) not recorded as a house on the tithe map was a tenement of the manor of Warningore. Many of the tenements in both manors were in the hands of members of the Jenner family by the end of the 17th century. |
