The early map of the demesne land (land in the hands of the lord of the manor) of the manor of Barcombe c1709-15 shows the plot of land, the 'Rail Field' on which the Anchor Inn was subsequently built. The map is rather crude and this detail is not orientated N-S. The river is at the top of the picture and Anchor Lane on the RHS. The funnel shaped entrance to the farm road which once led to Gallops Farm still survives. |
