Gallybird Hall TA863

The house consists of three distinct ranges. To the west and north of the original building are two brick built extensions, probably from the 19th century. The west elevation is faced with weather-board.

The framed hearth opening and the details visible in the roof suggest that it was built c1580-1600 with an end smoke bay with the fireplace contained within framing to the eastern side of the northern bay. There is no evidence of a stair, which may have been either on the west side of the northern bay or external.

The tenements associated with the house were all enclosed from Handlye common in 1574. The date of construction of the original house suggests that it was built for the owners of the principal tenement shortly after the enclosure. As such it is an interesting survival.
