The house was said to have been built by Richard Cox before 1760.

Cox's field was purchased when Holroyd's Barcombe Place estate was first offered for sale in 1836. It was partitioned from Messuage, barn, garden, orchard 1 acre, 3 closes 8 acres, Lyme Meade 3 acres near Barcombe Cross. (see P113/34 Grantham TA 949).
