P113/20/1 2007 Tudor Cottages, Old Thatch, Attrees

This tenement formed part of Holroyd's Barcombe Place estate until the sale of 1836 when it was purchased by James Cripps Cox. The high status medieval house that had been partitioned to form cottages by 1840 would have been the principal messuage (dwelling) of the tenement of which it originally formed a part. The later house, Attree's, is undoubtedly named from the prominent family who owned much of the land purchased by Holroyd and who may at some time have lived in the house. James Cripps Cox also owned cottages in the street at Barcombe Cross (see P113/20 TA 904.5)
