Mystery house near Hayes Farm, 1715.
The map of a farm at Barcombe Mills, the property of John Rootes, is crude and difficult to interpret with certainty. Chantlers Croft is where the present group of cottages stands and the smaller of the two houses is probably Hayes Farm with a barn behind it. The large house may lie somewhere to the north/north east of Hayes Farm.
The two fields to the right are not depicted in their actual position. They lie to the west of the mills (TA 1247 and 1074).
