P113/44/1 2007 Hayes Farm and land, land near Camois Court (excluding the house), the Crink, Mongers Farm and land.

This landholding, part of estate of the Earl of Liverpool in Barcombe in 1840, consists of part of the demesne of the manor of Camois Court and Hayes Farm former demesne of the manor of Barcombe as well as the tenements listed below.

Camois Court was formed by partition of the manor of Barcombe and was originally, like the principal manor, identified as Barcombe (Bercamp). The earliest record dated 1198 identifies the manor in the hands of Maud de Bercamp, her name suggesting that she probably lived at her manor. The manor descended to the Camoys' family in the early 14th century but was not identified in documents as Camoys Court until the mid-15th century after the tenure had passed out of their hands. It eventually passed to the Lewkenor family and, when the male line failed, was inherited by daughters. That inheritance led to a complex partition of interest in the manor (24). The moieties eventually resolved into two holdings. This one was purchased by Thomas Medley in 1709 and was merged with their other land in Barcombe, passing eventually to the Earls of Liverpool. (For the other share which descended to the Lucas family of Longford see P113/56 TA 1070).

The present Hayes farm dates from the mid-17th century, but, as it was the only tenement recorded as part of the manor demesne by the mill in the early 18th century, it is possible that it had a predecessor. Medley bought the Mill Farm property from the Misses Goring in 1751.This landholding continued to be recorded in the land tax as 'Hays land', which suggests the Hay family may have farmed not only their own tenement of Exters (Monger's Farm), but also the two demesne holdings as tenant farmers.
