Barcombe Mills 1873/4 and 1910 The earliest railway station in Barcombe served the mills - an important feature of the local economy. The line serving the station at Barcombe Cross was not built until 1880.

Some development can be seen at the mills and a few new houses appear. The White House fills a site by the railway. The old Roots Cottages were destroyed by fire after 1874, the new cottages were depicted by 1910.
