Medieval kitchen
Dominic Andrews Archaeological Artist

Medieval kitchens were a fire hazard and were frequently situated in significant buildings detached from main house. The description of Camois Court manor before the early manor house was abandoned mentions the kitchen as a separate item, suggesting that it was detached.

Sadly the site of the original manor house has not been located. The evidence suggests that it was situated on the field called Camois Court immediately adjoining the present house (TA 1080). Despite its proximity to the house, because the estate had been partitioned, the field named Camois Court was owned by the Earl of Liverpool in 1840 and not William Lucas Shadwell who owned the house and farm.
