Prehistoric
A total of 225 pieces of worked flint was recovered from this field, and was predominantly Mesolithic, with just a handful of later pieces. The assemblage comprises mostly debitage, with 76 soft hammer-struck flakes and 56 hard hammer-struck flakes, and a small number of blades and bladelets. There were eight flake cores, some of which had platform preparation, but all look Mesolithic, and a single bladelet core. A core rejuvenation flake and flanc de nucleus also indicate a Mesolithic flintworking strategy. The only tools in this assemblage were four end scrapers and a hollow scraper, all of which could be Mesolithic. |
